A name is very important for everyone, since we will be known and called by the name we were given by our parents until the day we breath our last and for some, long after they leave this world. In the past, a baby gets named after relatives long dead, usually a great grand parent or a grand parent, or for those religious folks, they normally look up the calendar to see who’s the saint being celebrated on that day their little one decided to grace the world with its presence. Others, try to be more creative and combine their names, I for one, am a product of that. But whatever means they arrived at that name, what’s more important is the meaning behind that name, since more often than not, the character of that child is influenced by the meaning of the name he/she is given.
Growing up, I find myself frustrated when it comes to looking up the meaning of my name. As I mentioned, my name is a combination of both my mom and dad’s name, Ernesto and Carolina. My mom opted to change the spelling a bit and drop off the “na” for a more contemporary sound. I’d surely won’t be happy if they decided to call me Erlina. So thankfully, they decided on the name Erlyn. But, well like what I said, it was extremely hard to look up the meaning of my name. Till I saw this website courtesy of Grace.
Although, the spelling is different, its the closest I could find for my name, and here goes…
Erline - a variant of Earla; the meaning of Erline is noblewoman, princess, warrior, countess.
That indeed made me smile
