Resuming my no rice diet

no_rice_logoI know it’s going to be tough to resume my No Rice Diet plan, but I seriously have to go on a diet since there’s 2 wedding events coming up that I need to attend. I certainly don’t want to look fat and old in the pictures, besides Nathan is going to turn 3 in a matter of months and I so don’t have any excuse why I’m still fat.

It was back in 2003 when I first tried the No Rice Diet. I read about it in the local paper, in the lifestyle section of Philippine Star. Pardon me for not being able to remember the author, that would be entirely impossible given that it’s been 7 years. The only thing I remember about the article is that the author mentioned the Happy Cow theory (let’s talk about that in a different post), and that her doctor recommended she try this diet plan. She was told not to eat rice for two weeks. On top of that great ordeal, she was also told not to eat any sweets. Oh yeah that’s why the word diet’s first three letters spells d-i-e! :P Well, going back to the story, the author then decided to purchase sugar substitute and have her cook bake her goodies using sugar substitute instead. After 2 weeks the author lost 10 lbs.

The time I tried the said diet was when I was in transition from one job to another. I was on terminal leave and was determined to slim down since I wanted to have a good picture when it comes time for us to have our ID pictures taken. So I ditched rice for two weeks, gave up my soda and bought loads of healthy wheat bread and a bottle of honey as a sweetener for my coffee. There were 2 or 3 times that I cheated and had some sweets but then again I was awfully faithful to the no rice vow I made. And after 2 weeks, lo and behold! I was 12 lbs lighter! Sadly, I do not have before and after pictures since I do not have a digital camera yet at that time. But anyway, here’s the 2 pictures I had when I was doing the no rice diet plan.

I used to weight 118 lbs before I joined CVG back in 2003. During that time when that picture was taken and after I survived 2 weeks of not eating rice, my weight dropped down to 106 lbs.

The last picture was taken a year after during the CVG 2004 Christmas party at the NBC tent. On that picture I weight 98 lbs. So now, I’m off to get back that weight. I have to lose 27.4 lbs to go back to my pre-pregnancy weight. Wish me luck friends. :)

i should be thinking about dieting soon also. been so used to having fast metabolism, eating as much as 2 to 3 cups of rice per meal (no kidding!) and staying at 105-110 at 5’6. well, it’s not the same now. i don’t know what changed.. age, perhaps? ;) gained so much. have to go back to my old physique!

@ palaboy – you can start out slow by cutting back rice intake, perhaps just having one rice meal per day, before totally giving up rice. good luck and hope you get favorable results as well.

@ joei -yeah they said that as we age our metabolism tends to slow down, so we have to opt to have more activities and to eat healthy in order to go back to our ideal weight. more than the aesthetics, we benefit more in terms of our health when we’re not overweight.

@ ate girlie – im currently trying out pandan water. i have two people who recommended it to me. try it out as well. it makes you really sweaty.
