Last February 24, 2010, SM Taytay celebrated the 2nd Annual Rizal Arts Festival to showcase the finest creations of its talented artists. This year’s festival has been opened to artists with different art mediums to proudly display the talented diversity of the artists of Rizal, rightfully known as the “Art Capital of the Philippines”.
The said project is the brainchild of celebrated painter and sculptor Nemi Miranda and Rizal’s first lady – Andrea “Andeng” Bautista-Ynares. Aside from paintings, the exhibit features art in the form of photography, tattoo, sculpting and furniture making, couture and bonsai making. SM Taytay’s Event hall was clad with creations of artists from Nemiranda’s Art Camp, members of the Eastern Rizal’s Photographer’s Guild, the NEO Angono artists and world-class couturiers – Merlino Cruz and Gener Gozum. Tattoo Artist Butch Bautista, had some of his paintings displayed as well, while the Rizal Bonsai Club’s beautiful potted greens decked SM Taytay’s Bridgeway.
The opening day was spiced up with a fashion show to further display the works of Gener Gozum and Merlino Cruz, both of whom are holding fashion shows in Europe.
Another part of the fashion show was aimed to display the age-old skin art of body tattoo. It was well received by the audience, for reasons I’m sure you can already tell for yourselves.
Another highlight of the program was the announcement of a new project – the creation of the world’s largest Filipiniana gown. The said project is aimed to be completed and presented to the public by October 12, 2010, to make this year’s celebration of Araw ng Taytay Celebration even more memorable.
Here are the paintings that bagged the top three awards.
The Exhibit will run until March 13, 2010. Meanwhile, the activities they are offering are as follows:

Oh and before you go, here are some of my favorites from the exhibit.
This cracked me up big time, reminds me of a prisoner trying to count the years and days to freedom, in this case the man must have been locked up for so long he already grew a tree on his head (Tagalog translation: Inugat na sha.)
And these last two, are both something I wanted to take home with me if I can.
Can’t wait for next year’s Rizal Arts Festival, made me feel really proud to be a Rizalena.
