In an effort to save the environment by raising awareness for climate change, National Geographic Channel partners with Design Against the Elements, for the Earth Run 2010 project. When I got the call for a bloggers meet, I wasn’t thinking of actually joining the run. But then when I got there and as I listened to Jude Turcuato, Nat Geo’s Territory Director – and ELac Diaz of Design Against the Elements’ as they talked passionately about their partnered advocacy; for the first time, I actually got to convince myself to join and run.
Earth Day Run will feature 3k, 5k and 10k races. Entry fees are PhP500 (3K), Php600 (5K), and PhP700 (10k), inclusive of a limited Earth Day Run technical shirt. Earth Day run will be held on April 18, 2010, starting at 5am at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
You may think that the causes are over rated but read along to find out more about it. The Earth Day Run is aimed at raising funds similar to other themed running events. The money that will be collected from the said project will be a prize money for a contest that Design Against the Elements is having. The contest is open world-wide for architects and engineers to create a design for houses that is built to survive the elements. This contest aims to let the world know that we, Filipinos are doing something innovative in order to prepare for the adverse effects of climate change. Instead of spending so much time, money, blood, sweat and tears in post disaster helping hand operation, DAtE comes up with this project that aims to make use of our resources in creating livable houses that will be able to weather the elements. The winning design will be used to create a model community.
If you have friends or family who were victims of last year’s devastation courtesy of Typhoon Ketsana, if you wanted to do something to help the world against climate change, then National Geographic and Design Against the Elements is giving you a chance to do just that – be part of something bigger. Run for a cause and be part of the Earth Run on April 18!
See you there!
