Last December, I bid goodbye to the corporate world to be a full-time, stay-at-home mom. It wasn’t easy switching from being a regular employee to becoming a full-time free-lancer. It’s actually more challenging to work at home compared to working in a regular office for 8 hours on Mondays to Fridays. Working at home entails a lot of discipline given the challenges that come with it. And speaking of challenges, here are just a few I’ve encountered over the last few months.
- Distractions – If you have a toddler at home and have limited household help, chances are, you’d have to take frequent breaks in order to attend to your child’s needs. In my case, it’s even more difficult considering that my son has a speech delay, so I have to be very keen and attentive to him to find out what he wants to express. Otherwise, he will end up frustrated and I might end up feeling the same way, which is of course, the last thing I want to happen. When that happens, it saps out my energy and my drive to work. Aside from my son, my mom frequently bugs me about a lot of things. As compared to being in a regular office, away from home, my mom cannot call me or bug me just about anytime. Where as now, she can and she does distract me to have me decide or do something totally trivial. Read more…
