Johnson and Johnson’s Mommy Bloggers Meet up

j&jLast Saturday – May 29, 2010, Johnson & Johnson’s held the third part of its Mommy bloggers meet up. It was my first time to attend as I was able to agree to attend other events during the first two scheduled meet ups. But I’m all set for the rest. I met other mom’s, soon-to-be mom’s, and would-be mom’s in the future (the single ladies). Anyway, we met at Dulcinea in Eastwood. Mee-i and I thought there was no one at the venue just yet so off we ate at McDonald’s for breakfast. When we came back after, it was only then that we found out that the event will be taking place at the second floor of Dulcinea and it’s already started. So yeah, we were fashionably late.

The main topics we’ve discussed are: 1.) Creating a Safe Environment for your Baby  2.) Touch Therapy and how it improves your child’s development

Under each of the topics, these are some of the sub-topics we’ve covered and discussed:

1.) Creating a Safe Environment for your Baby

  • Sudden Infants Death Syndrome (SIDS) – common causes would be pillows or having too much of it in the crib, suffocation from breastfeeding, suffocation from parents actually accidentally falling asleep on top of the baby.
  • Falling from the bed – most moms in the room actually agreed that one way or another this will happen. I was unable to relate because we’ve always used the Japanese bed setting so its not much of a problem for us and according to most moms who experienced it in their first babies opted to actually use the same set up in order to prevent it from happening again to their next children.
  • What to do if the baby falls on the bed – do not let the baby fall asleep when the baby just fell and was suddenly sleepy. But if it has been hours when the baby fell and the baby is really sleepy by all means make the baby sleep. Then observe for 2-3 days, if the baby vomits, bring the baby to the doctor.

2.) Touch Therapy

  • Massage the baby in order to give them a relaxing and good night sleep.
  • As many of you may know by now, touch therapy strengthens the bond between parent and child. I say parent because it’s not just a mommy thing. In fact daddies are highly encouraged to do so in order to strengthen their bond with the child as the mother and the child will have a natural connection.
  • One of the moms said that her child who grew up being a product of consistent touch therapy and who prefers to have his/her head area to be massaged gently before going to sleep at night is very smart. What’s amazing is that another mommy blogger was able to attest to this. The other mom has a twin and one of the twins – the girl, prefers the same thing. And she said that the girl is smarter than the boy. So I started doing the same thing to my son after I heard about that.
  • Touch therapy contributes as well to the physical development of the children. The mom who has twins said that her husband is 5’4″ and she’s only 4’11″ (like me), and yet her children are surprisingly tall for their ages.

I’m looking forward for the set of meet ups since there’s still a bunch of interesting topics to discuss. :)
