Toastmasters International is an organization that exists in order to help people to develop and enhance their public speaking skills. Back in college I was an active member of one of its clubs and was actually the only one in college back then. Most of my colleagues in the club were professionals.
The meeting is held weekly, where we first kick off with some game and then three extemporaneous speech and the speakers with picked at random while the topic is given a minute before the speaker is supposed to start speaking. After the said activity an evaluator, who is a senior member will provide feedback to the speakers. Then comes the prepared speech which is of course also evaluated later on.
There are different speech projects that a member will have to prepare for which has different objectives. After you finished off with the first ten projects, you are sort of promoted to a CTM or short for Competent Toastmaster level. Along with earning the title you get a certificate and a lapel pin (the more lapel pins you have the higher your level is).
I joined a contest twice and and was lucky enough to be able to join the area level. I suddenly remembered my Toastmasters days and is thinking of getting back in the club. But that’ll have to wait once I have a more stable income.
