WHAT’S YOUR NUMBER MOVIE REVIEW

So apparently, Video City is still in business. And with digital piracy on an all time high, that just goes to say that rates for dvd and vcd rentals went down reasonably well. So when I found my membership card, which I got for a meager P20, I went ahead and borrowed a couple of dvds and vcds before the holy week. One of the dvds I rented is the romantic comedy movie – What’s Your Number. The movie is an adaptation of the book. I came across the book once in National Bookstore, got interested but decided not to buy the book when I saw the price tag stamped on it. It says P640+ I think. The most that I would spend on a book is P350, and so the 600bucks for this book is way out of my budget.

Thankfully, I managed to earn some self restraint when it comes to buying books. Books are my guilty pleasures and when I see one that I like, it’s takes a lot of guts to walk away from the shelf and not bring it with me to the counter. And having seen the movie, made me decide not to read the book altogether.

Story:

Ally Darling (Anna Farris) found out that she is not just like any other average American girl, that is, when it comes to the number of guys she’s slept with. Apparently, a typical American girl has an average of 10.5 guys they slept with in their lifetime. Ally has had 19 when she came across the said article. And so she made a resolution not to go beyond 20 and that whoever will be the 20th guy she’ll sleep with will be the one she’ll marry. Sadly, the night of she made that vow in front of her friends, she ended up hitting the sack with her former boss who just fired her. And so with that, she thought of a plan to track down all the other guys and find out if any of them will be a husband material. Her womanizing next door neighbor helped her play Nancy Drew and what turns out later on is something they both didn’t expect.

What I like about the movie:

  • The movie is downright funny. There was even a time she was able to track down her ex who is English. Apparently, she pretended to be English herself by faking her British accent and during their reunion, she later on slipped and went down from British to Borat.
  • Anna Farris is funny and her leading man is hands down hot.

What I don’t like:

  • Well it’s not really that I don’t like it, it’s just something I will not recommend for young audiences given that there are some nudity.

I’m not a pro, so don’t expect me to say something about the screenplay or any other technical movie stuff. I just take it at face value. So with that it’s an okay movie for me. 3 out of 5. ;)
