Last Saturday on my home from a lengthy commute from the south to our abode in the East, I dropped by the groceries to get some supplies for our pantry. I was thinking of cooking Carbonara for dinner or some other pasta recipe. The people at home are tired of my spaghetti meat sauce as they prefer the sweet ketchuppy style and my mom is not a big fan of me putting Italian herbs on my sauce, and so I tried to linger in the pasta sauce aisle and lo and behold I found this – Clara Ole’s Kung Pao Pasta Sauce!

Now I remember that my husband is not a big fan of spicy food but he makes an exception for Yellow Cab’s Charlie Chan pasta. And so seeing that this pack is only P29, I went ahead and placed it in my grocery basket along with a can of shitake mushrooms. Since we still have some left over food for dinner that day, I got to cook my own Charlie Chan pasta the next day which is a good thing because the husband took a vacation leave. We had for a late afternoon snack and I would have to say we were not disappointed. The minute the sauce hits the pan, it’s as if we were in Yellow Cab’s kitchen. My maid who was then doing the laundry a few meters from me immediately remarked how good it smells.
When I brought it to my husband who was then playing video games inside our room with the airconditioner, the room was immediately filled with the scent of Clara Ole’s Kung Pao sauce and that was enough for him to pause from his gaming and chow down the pasta. We didn’t have chicken meat that day so our version was a little different, I added strips of pork tapa instead. And of course we added some peanuts and onion leaves. And we truly had a hearty meal. Well, I still love Yellow Cab’s Charlie Chan pasta but since we can’t always enjoy that at home, I’m stacking on Clara Ole’s Kung Pao sauce to make sure we steer clear from calling YC’s delivery number and end up having more calories to burn (but wont) and even almost one grand poorer.
