CLARA OLE’S KUNG PAO PASTA SAUCE – A NEW FIND

Last Saturday on my home from a lengthy commute from the south to our abode in the East, I dropped by the groceries to get some supplies for our pantry. I was thinking of cooking Carbonara for dinner or some other pasta recipe. The people at home are tired of my spaghetti meat sauce as they prefer the sweet ketchuppy style and my mom is not a big fan of me putting Italian herbs on my sauce, and so I tried to linger in the pasta sauce aisle and lo and behold I found this – Clara Ole’s Kung Pao Pasta Sauce!

Now I remember that my husband is not a big fan of spicy food but he makes an exception for Yellow Cab’s Charlie Chan pasta. And so seeing that this pack is only P29, Read more…

CHRISTMAS CRAVINGS

It’s starting to feel and smell like Christmas already, and 2 days ago, I had the rewarding experience of eating Putobumbong! I’m not exactly sure what it’s called in English but I just know that it’s made up of glutinous rice, that I’m not even certain. Too bad there’s no one that sells these sumptuous sweets in our neighborhood. Next week I intend to go to my dad’s place again. I’ll have Bibingka next time. :)

CCME Homemadefoodstuff.com: Good food for Good times

Last Saturday, I decided to surprise my husband by inviting some of his friends over for lunch. Since I had a pretty rough week then, instead of doing all the cooking, I decided to just order food so I won’t have to worry about all the marketing and the cooking. And with that I thought I decided to call CCME. I first had a taste of their good food through my college friend Geri when she ordered the food from the said catering company during one of their family parties. My husband, who is particularly hard to impress when it comes to food, was sold! Then when we went to another family friend, we got our second chance to taste their food and my husband and I both agree that they’re pretty consistent when it comes to the taste of their food.

So last Saturday, I waited excitedly for our food to arrive before 10:30AM, and boy were they prompt. I ordered their Merienda Grande meal, which has chicken barbeque. Around 8AM I got a call from them explaining that they made a mistake and cooked chicken and peas instead. I said that’s okay and they were very much apologetic. When their delivery guy arrived, they sent us a plate of puto to apologize for the mishaps. Apparently, it turned out for the better considering that we all enjoyed the chicken and peas. The only thing that I think they could improve on is the texture of the baked macaroni, we all find it too dry. Other than that it was all good for us. We’ll be ordering again for this coming Saturday for my dad’s birthday. :)

Nova Multigrain Snack Bar Big Nutrition Minus the Calories

Yesterday I resumed my long suspended diet, and I for dinner I was looking for something not more than 120calories. So during my one hour break from work, also dinner time, I went to a convenience store outside the office and found Nova’s newest addition to its healthy snack line – The Nova Multigrain Snack Bar.

Nova was introduced in the market back in mid or late 1990s by Universal Robina to cater to people who are fond of chips but would rather skip munching on it because of the lack of nutritional value of most chips in the market. As such, if you want to take a day off and live the proverbial life of a coach potato for a day, you can definitely indulge without the guilt, with the Nova Multigrain snacks. Read more…

Loc Maria Chocolate Crepes – my new diet wrecker

image taken from amazon.com

Last month, my uncle from the US and his wife, came home for a month-long visit. And of course we all know that “balikbayans” are known to bring home a lot of goodies for their relatives and families in the Philippines. Among my precious loot is the Loc Maria Chocolate crepes. We didn’t open it right away, as I have a tendency to stick to what we’ve grown accustomed to. So the usual chocolates that we all grew up with like M&Ms, Snickers, Three Musketeers were the first ones we ate. It was only later on that we decided to open the can and give it a try.

Lo and behold! Loc Maria Chocolate crepes did not disappoint! When I had my first bite, I met my new diet wrecker! It is made up of thin and crisp chocolate wafer perfectly folded, coated with fine semi-sweet chocolate. I have to restrain myself from finishing the entire can the time we tasted it. It was so good I have to tell everyone in the house not to get from it unless they tell me. :) Yeah, normally they can just get and eat anything that is in the fridge but this time, I told them to hands off on my chocolate crepes. :)

I hope the local supermarkets will start carrying this brand, although I understand why they aren’t at the moment since it’s rather expensive. Anyway, if you have relatives abroad, ask them to get you this brand the next time they come home in PH so that you can taste it yourself. After you do, or if you’ve tried it in the past, your comments will be much appreciated so the rest of the lurkers of this blog reads through your thoughts on just how good it is. Don’t tell me I didn’t warn you when I said it’s hard to stop yourself from emptying the entire can of Loc Maria Chocolate crepes once you start eating it!

White Hat Lover’s Hat – Heaven in a cup

I’ve been craving for White Hat Yogurt Lover’s hat for almost three weeks now. When we were in Shangri-la Mall three weeks ago, I was told they don’t have cherries and cashews so Lover’s hat is not available. I was really disappointed, I don’t want to order another flavor, so off we went without my Lover’s hat.

Yesterday, I was thrilled to pass by Gateway Mall to get my yogurt fix, but lo and behold, I was disappointed to see a sign stating that there’s no yogurt available. :( So I ended up at Dairy Queen instead, which is another favorite of mine, but since it’s not what I’m craving for at the moment, I wasn’t satisfied.

Today, before going to the office, I went directly to White Hat and was ecstatic to find out that I can already order. I finally got my long awaited Lover’s Hat. It is a cup of healthy yogurt, of course, topped with yummy cherries and a lot of chocolate chips and cashew nuts! When I got my first spoonfull, it was absolutely divine! White Hat Lover’s hat is my heaven in a cup! And since I waited for three long weeks, I found myself heading back to White Hat three hours after to get another round of Lover’s Hat.  :)

On Appetite Suppressants

Appetite Suppressants have long been around to help curb cravings and unhealthy eating habits. Unfortunately, there are some brands that have been identified to have really bad side effects. I forgot the brand that my mom used to take when she was still in her 20s and she said, she doesn’t feel hungry at all after taking it but she spits all the time and well she’s unable to sleep at night.

One brand that I recently heard of is Phentermine. I’m trying to check out Phentermine reviews right now to check if there are adverse side effects and if it’s actually safe. I might need one soon when we have a send-off party to my uncle and his wife when they go back in the US. Will let you know soon if it’s okay and if I’m going to give it a try.

Dan Eric’s Ice Cream

Earlier I was going over my current cravings for ice cream, hmmm now I’m thinking of White Hat Frozen yogurt. Well, anyway, I remember a local brand of ice cream – Dan Eric’s Ice Cream, that I used to buy,  back when we were still living in Makati. It’s not as good as other high end brands but it is still good nonetheless. And with the tag price that goes along with it, I don’t think a lot of people could actually complain.

For those of you who may be interested in retailing Dan Eric’s Ice Cream, here’s what I found:

- you pay PhP3,500 (not sure if they’ve already increased the pricing. But the said comment in the forum I checked is dated January 6 of this year.) initially, for the freezer. Then there’s an installment plan.

- no franchise fees.

- text or call 09209140242 look for Belen Palmenco, who is a distributor in Paranaque area.
