BEYOND ALL MEASURE BOOK REVIEW

Beyond All Measure is such a surprise! What I initially thought to be an old-school, slow paced with very minimal twists and turns kind of a novel, got me reading even while aboard the train on my way to and from work. Read more…

HARRY POTTER 7 ON SECOND LOOK

Last Saturday, I dragged my husband to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. He begrudgingly agreed. He hates going out on a pay day weekend and during the first few days of the movie being shown. But I just had to watch it again, and so he obliged. Read more…

STRANGE BUT TRUE BOOK REVIEW

I got a copy of this book a couple of weeks back and I picked it up in a second hand book store. It was for a meager P10 and so I got it. I was already out of a book to read (I always have one in my bag), and I’m short on cash so I decided to get it among the other books I wanted to get.

The summary at the back of the book tells about the story of a young girl Read more…

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE BOOK REVIEW

I bought a copy of the book earlier this year, as another gift for my husband. I think this time around it was for either a Valentine’s gift or a peace offering. Anyway, knowing how my life is in a constant frenzy, it was only last Saturday night that I finally decided to get hold of the book and read it.

To Read List Inventory

I’m currently reading a book I bought from a second hand book shop. With all the things that are happening in my life as of late, I found myself gravitating towards books about establishing a better relationship with God. Right now I’m reading Lord of the Loose Ends by Lloyd Ogilvie. It’s about one’s struggles about gaining control over every aspect, situation and even relationship in life. And how each attempt leads to even more loose ends. Anyway, going back, since the theme of the books I’m reading lately are more on spirituality and seeking God, I found my list of fiction books and self-help books piling up. At home, I have one fiction book that was written by a Japanese author (I forgot the title), that was given to me by husband on my 27th birthday. Dang! It’s been waiting in line for 3 years now! Aside from that I have Harry Potter 7, Outliers, Slumdog Millionaire that’s waiting online. I had to fight the urge to buy another book every time I pass by a book store. The newest addition to my to read list is Mojo, given to me by my uncle right before he went back to the States. Looks like a good read, can’t wait to start reading it. Oh well, so much to do, so little time!

Short Attention Span due to Twitter and the likes

I do not have statistics to back up this statement of mine, this is based on my mere personal experience and observations. I need not point towards other people because I have myself as an example to begin with when I say that Twitter, Plurk and micro-blogging has indeed shortened my attention span.
Back in 2003, when I was still working as a phone rep, before my shift starts, I would check out all my friends blogs and copy all their most recent posts (most of it have a minimum of 5-10 paragraphs), put those posts in my desktop’s notepad, each post separated by the names of each of my blogger friend at the start of the post. And well, I have tons of blogger friends then, each day I make it a point to visit 10 sites. And during low call volume, I try to keep myself occupied by reading through those posts. Back then blogging is still very  much uncommon and unheard of. If you have a blog, it’s either you’re a geek or you’re fond of journalizing your thoughts. I was part of the second group. And when you blog and read blogs, you tend to gravitate towards blogs with the same content. Okay I’m rambling. To cut it short, most of the blogs back then are personal blogs, so reading through people’s blogs back then is like getting a picture of their life and the thoughts that go into their heads. And the same is true for me, you’d read through a cycle of heartbreak and well, endless lamentations I had back then. Aside from my penchant for reading blogs back then, I also finished the entire Da Vinci Code in my teammate’s Palm Pilot. I used to read a minimum of one book a month back then, and for 2005 I managed to finish 29 books for the entire year! Now it’s a totally different story. Read more…
