ONE DAY MOVIE REVIEW

I recently watched the movie One Day starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. I’m not sure if it has already been shown here in the Philippines as I hardly watch movies in theaters (yeah I’m a cheapskate!), neither do I get to watch tv that often to find out what’s currently showing in theaters. Anyway, the reason I came across the said movie was when I suddenly decided to have a movie marathon of movies starring Anne Hathaway, all because I find her performance in Becoming  Jane  absolutely awesome! Not to mention that she totally rocks with her British accent. That’ll be for another entry, for now let’s go back to my One Day movie review. Read more…

Hachiko: A Dog’s Story

Last night, I decided to download the movie Hachiko: A Dog’s Story. I was definitely warned that it’s a sure-fire tear-jerker. It is a story about a friendship about one man and his dog. One cold night, fate brought man and puppy together and set them on a journey of love, friendship and unconditional loyalty. It’s a true story about a dog who’s unwavering loyalty for his human carried him on day after day, season after season, to wait at the train station where fate brought them together,  for 9 years since his human died. He was there, never missing a day, still awaiting the return of his dear friend.

My words wont do justice to Hachi’s love and loyalty, please watch the film and see how one dog is capable of such devotion. No other creature is deserving of the term – man’s best friend, but a dog. As a little boy once said when asked what love is: its a puppy wagging its tail excitedly, eager to see you, even if you left it alone all day. Hachiko: A Dog story perfectly encapsulates the deep bond a man and a dog can have.

Neil Gaiman’s Take on Love

“Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn’t it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life…You give them a piece of you. They didn’t ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn’t your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like ‘maybe we should be just friends’ turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It’s a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love.”

I couldn’t agree more!

TEXT MESSAGING ETHICS

Back in the early to mid 90′s, the “in” thing in terms of communication gadgets are pagers. But then again, prior to the time it became affordable to ordinary people, the said service is mostly used only by doctors due to the urgency of their jobs. Then, of course, more and more people decided they want to have one as well and so more companies started to offer the service, as such, the rates became more affordable enabling more common people to take advantage of it as well.

In the late 90′s to the early 2000′s the pager became completely forgotten with the advent of text messaging. Text messaging became a massive thing that it completely obliterated the pagers. For one, you no longer have to relay your message to an operator, thereby, taking away any censorship or inhibitions (of course depending on your comfort level with the person you are sending a text message to.). Although, in some cases it may be a good effect, but then again there are still disadvantages. Ergo, as we go through the disadvantages of text messaging, let us also go through some points I’d call Text Messaging Ethics. Read more…

Weddings At Work

Weddings at Work (weddingsatwork.com) is a website that is all about weddings. Everything imaginable – articles on the requirements you need to secure for the wedding, finding a venue and different suppliers. You can opt to be a member in order to get discounted rates from selected suppliers who honors W@Wies.

For suppliers, you can find musicians, photographers, florists, caterers, designers and even gowns and tuxedo shirts rentals. They also have a wedding forum for couples to be wed and of course those who already tied the knot. I have a lot of friends who would vouch for how good this site is as a wedding resource. Since it’s June I’m sure there are a lot of W@Wies out there who are set to exchange I-do’s, and to them I say Best wishes and Congratulations! :)

EMOTIONAL AFFAIRS

Some are insisting that money is a requirement in order to have an affair. Well, I say, not in all cases. There is such a thing as an emotional affair just in case you are not aware. An emotional affair initially starts as an innocent friendship. A little chit chat here and there that could later on result to an exchange of pro-longed emails or text messages. This kind of an affair does not have physical intimacy in the equation, thereby and somehow, taking out the money in the equation as well. Of course, when you want to meet in some clandestine location to do the deed, in cases of affairs involving physical intimacy, you obviously need money for that. The absence of physical intimacy, somehow equates to eliminating the money part as well.

When you are investing in more time and emotional energy that could later on form a strong emotional bond with someone else aside from your spouse, it would no doubt hurt the intimacy that you should be sharing only with your spouse. Read more…

Hang up over A Walk to Remember

a walk to rememberI watched A Walk to Remember in the big screen some years ago, I think more than five years ago and it’s still on the top of my list of most romantic movies. Okay, I’m a big fan of Mandy Moore so that’s a plus. But aside from that, I also like their team up. Shayne West did a great job in playing a typical jock, who later on found himself madly in love with the girl he’s least likely to fall for. Mandy Moore on the other hand was very versatile. Note that this was just her second movie, the first movie she was casted was Princess Diaries where she played the part of Anne Hathaway’s mean girl classmate. Watching her play the role of the pastor’s daughter was a breath of fresh air, very far from the image I have of her singing “Candy” and “Crush”. Read more…
