MANAGEMENT TRAINING WORKSHOPS

I’ve been off the corporate set up for more than half a year now and one of the things (yes, there’s a few) that I miss about the corporate life is attending management training or workshops. Back in the one of the companies Read more…
CONTEMPLATING….
I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be a medical representative. It sounds too glitzy to me, with the free car that comes with the job, all the sponsored events where the rep ushers in or shoos in the doctors, it just sounded too palatable. I have tried to look for postings on the said field more than a couple of times but then failed to hit the apply button, every time I see the requirement that says female applicants need to be at least 5’2″ in height. Yes, sadly, I am vertically challenged. And so the prospect of becoming a medical representative was locked up and forgotten. Read more…

NURSING GRADUATES ENDING UP JOBLESS
The Philippine Department of Education has issued a statement, months ago, discouraging high school graduates not to opt to take up nursing when they go to college. Why so, you may ask. Well, first and foremost, there’s a surplus, well, more than a surplus of nursing graduates in the Philippines today. It is so difficult to find a job, which is your primary ticket to home for aging people like the Denver Nursing Home in the States or elsewhere. Read more…
ON CHOOSING A COLLEGE DEGREE
While I was contemplating of what has become of my life overall, among the many realizations I’ve had, one relates to the college degree I’ve chosen.

Business, business, business
Mom and I started a micro-business. Last week we started selling ladies accessories. She brings it to church and after the service, she shows it to the member of her cell group and the members of the women’s fellowship. And well, it clicked! Today I asked her to bring more items with her. Hopefully they like it. The good thing about this business is that unlike the food business, there’s no spoiling of goods.
Yesterday, I also bought initial stocks for my body scrub business. I hope this one clicks as well. We just need to package it really well. We also bought a colored printer that also functions as a copier, scanner and fax machine. Next on the list is another external hard drive and an office table and then we’ll be all set for our business. Which reminds me, I need help with document management, as I’m expecting to have lots of files as we come up with packaging for our hand sanitizers and body scrubs.
It will definitely help me in getting more organized and easily computing for our expenses, profit and revenue.
LinkedIn, Monsters, Jobstreet
Technology has indeed changed the way we live today. Ten years ago, I even got to experience walking into offices just to leave my resume. I could almost hear your thoughts and yes I agree, quite a waste of money. But well back in those days, that’s pretty much how things are done. Fortunately, I didn’t have to do it for long with the advent of Jobstreet and Jobsdb. Not only do you get to go through a variety of job postings, it also saves you time and energy, since you’ll only have to leave the house when you already have an appointment with the company you’re applying to.

I even signed up and uploaded my resume in Monsters, which I find rather silly later on, considering that it is a job posting site for US jobs. Too bad, I actually like the site since it was rather easy to navigate. At the same time, you could customize your search by areas and localities, you simply just have to type the select the city or state, or even put in the keywords like Charlotte jobs and in a matter of seconds, you get a list of the job postings in the said area. That’s something I’ve yet to see with Jobstreet and Jobsdb.
LinkedIn recently came into the picture as well. It’s like a more professional looking Facebook. You can even get testimonials or recommendations from your previous bosses and colleagues. Cool! I’d say, I’m really glad that I’m a child of my time.
